A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

This lovely painting is above the altar at St Magnus the Martyr in the City of London. It’s a Christopher Wren church and there are several ancient churches in the area.

Another year has passed and Christmas is staring us in the eye again. But what about next year? What will it bring? I’m hoping for a better year for everyone and more church exploring! And of course discovering more symbols!

So I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    Hi Carole,

First of all may I wish you a Happy New Year.

I’ve just started to research my family history , on my mothers side ( sadly she is no longer with us) and whilst searching ‘Tyrrell family of Norwood London’ I came across your article’ The Unknown mourner of Norwood cemetery’.

My mothers maiden name was Tyrrell and I believe her father lived in Woodland Road Gipsy Hill S. E. London somewhere around 1929.

I know it’s a long shot and apologies if in any way it causes any upset but I was wondering if you are related to the Tyrrell family of that area, l believe his parents were William and Sophia.
My mother was raised in an orphanage so I have very little to go on.
    Best wishes George

    1. Dear George
I apologise for the delay in replying to your post – still trying to catch up with the aftermath of Christmas.

I have done a little family history research into my own family and I believe
that my branch actually came from Sussex but I too have very little to go on as I’ve never met any of the relatives on my dad’s side at all. I do wonder whenever I hear of someone with the same spelling.

I grew up in Upper Norwood but was never aware of any relatives living nearby.

Sorry to disappoint you but I do wish you the best of luck in your search.

      Best wishes
      Carole
